The Best Times to Post on Social Media in 2019

social media post time

Social media is a powerful tool for businesses and marketers to find new clients. You know it, since you are using it, too. And you are probably looking for ways to grow your number of followers, the engagement rate of your content and the conversion rate of your traffic funnel.

Leaving other considerations aside, the content with the highest chances of engagement is the one posted at the moment when the greatest majority of your prospects are online. Yes, we are back to the never-ending topic of the best times to post on social media. We talked about this before, and we will keep talking about it.

People Change Their Social Media Browsing Habits – And So Must You

There is always a change in the tide of user interaction with each social media platform. As these platforms matured and users formed their preferences, they also formed habits about when to go online and see what their friends and favourite pages shared.

Thus, there are specific trends for user activity for each social media platform. This means that you must change your posting schedule to fit these browsing trends. Otherwise, your followers are less likely to see them. Be honest: how far down do you scroll through your news feeds? Even if you are intent on finding a specific post, new ones will push it lower and lower and you will eventually give up trying.

So, timing is everything. And we decided to focus in this article on the best three social media platforms for advertising and marketing: Facebook™, Instagram and LinkedIn. The findings below are a summary of several parallel surveys and researches performed in the last few months.

1. Facebook™

This is the most active social media network from the point of view of advertising and marketing. And for this matter, the findings will be more detailed than for the other platforms.

Generally, the best times to share posts on Facebook™ are Wednesday and Thursday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The peak moment with the largest number of active users is Wednesday at 1 p.m. By contrast, the moments with the least engagements are Sundays, early mornings (before 7 a.m.) and late afternoons (after 5 p.m.).

Best Posting Times for B2C Retailers

Online retailers of consumer goods are among the most active brands on Facebook™. The best moments for them to share posts and even schedule ads are:

  • On Wednesday between 1 – 3 p.m.;
  • On Thursday at 5 p.m.;
  • On Friday between 10 – 11 a.m.

Just like for general purpose posting, Sundays have the lowest engagement rate.

Best Posting Times for Tech Companies

People who are passionate about gadgets and new technologies have a specific pattern of browsing Facebook™, whether we are talking of B2B or B2C audiences. Thus, Wednesday between 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. is the peak moment for sharing posts and ads. Other periods with high engagement are Monday at 9 a.m. and Tuesday between 10-11 a.m.

Best Posting Times for Media Companies

People who interact with media brands are most active on Facebook™ towards the beginning and end of the working week. Thus, the best times to post are:

  • On Tuesday at 5 p.m.;
  • On Friday between 8-9 a.m.

Wednesday is also a good day to post early in the morning (before 9 a.m.) and late in the afternoon (at 5 p.m.).

2. Instagram

The behaviour of Instagram users is somehow similar to those on Facebook™. One explanation for this is that Instagram belongs to Facebook™ and there is much integration between the two platforms; also, many people have accounts on both platforms.

Since Instagram has been from the beginning a social media platform developed for mobile, most users avoid accessing it during business hours, when they should not be playing on their mobile phones. Thus, the best times of day to post on Instagram are during the lunch hour (11 a.m. – 1 p.m.) and in the evening (after 7 p.m.).

As for the days, the highest engagement rates were measured on Wednesday, closely followed by Monday and Thursday.

3. LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a special social media network. It is dedicated to professionals, business people and scholars. Thus, the engagement rates depend on their working schedule more than in the case of any other social platform.

Thus, as a rule that so far hasn’t changed, the best days to post on LinkedIn are the business days. As for the timeframes, they depend on your type of business:

  • B2C businesses: 12 p.m.;
  • B2B businesses: 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 6 p.m.;
  • Media companies: 8 a.m.

The reason why B2B businesses have more peak points is partly justified by the fact that professional recruiters use LinkedIn to search for talent. Thus, you must perform several individual assessments for the best times for this social media network, especially when you are planning an ad campaign.
